Anand - Karpov 2009

Just before the real World Cup 2009 we still get one more important chess show. Mr. Anand, the current world champion, confidently defeated Mr. Karpov, former world champion, 3.5-0.5 . A no surprise result, Anand was known as ultra strong rapid player in his younger day and Karpov is now more like enjoying himself as a legend rather than as a chess player. Both of them played a friendly rapid match in Bastia and Ajaccio, both in Corsica island. Napoleon Bonaparte was born here as well.

In accordance to the exhibition a serious tournament was held. The Corsica Masters Bastia was won by GM Ivan Sokolov. Ivan is the only 2600 players and won a tie break from Vladimir Malaniuk and Hicham Hamdouchi after all scored 7.5/9. The tournament is a 9 rounds swiss with 90m + 30 second addition per move for whole game. Here is Ivan Sokolov win in Nimzo indian against GM Yehuda Gruenfeld. Yehuda is notable for being a strong handicap GM , he is deaf and mute but able to read lip and speaks.

Juara dunia Anand menyudahi partai persahabatan nya dengan Karpov dengan skor 3.5-0.5 . Tentu sang legenda juara dunia Karpov bukan lagi lawan tanding yang seimbang buat Anand yang di masa muda nya terkenal dengan kecepatannya. Semua partai berlangsung dengan 1.d4.

Di waktu yang sama Ivan Sokolov dari Belanda/Bosnia menjuarai turnamen master nya. Berikut kemenangan Ivan melawan pecatur bisu tuli dari Israel GM Yehuda Gruenfeld.
