Indonesia first Chess Grandmaster Herman Suradiradja Passed Away

In the night where international chess community lost the great chess grandmaster Viktor Korchnoi (23 March 1931 - 6 June 2016), the chess community in Indonesia saddened by the lost of their first chess grandmaster. GM Herman Suradiradja , born October 14th 1947, died yesterday June 5th, 2016 at 18:30 local time. Grandmaster Herman Suradiradja was Indonesian first grandmaster ever. Born in Sukabumi and was awarded the IM title in 1976 and the GM title in 1978. In tournaments he was 1st at Primorsko 1977 and 1st at Plovdiv 1978. He won Indonesian Championship in 1975, Medan. He was still active lately, his last tournament was in  May 2016 where he was facing GM Oliver Dimakaling.

For years, unfortunately he is known as one of the lowest-rated players ever to attain the grandmaster title.

Telah Berpulang Grandmaster Catur Pertama Indonesia GM Herman Suradiradja

Grandmaster catur pertama Indonesia meninggal dunia pada tanggal 5 June 2016 pukul 18:30 WIB, menurut sumber di media sosial. Ringkasan biografi GM Herman Suradiradja ada di Wikipedia Indonesia :

Herman Suradiradja (lahir di Sukabumi, Jawa Barat, 14 Oktober 1947; umur 68 tahun) adalah seorang pecatur Indonesia. Herman adalah pecatur Indonesia yang pertama kali meraih gelar Grand Master.

Herman adalah putra ke 7 dari Raden Sudarma Suradiradja (Tokoh Pasundan).
Herman menjadi juara nasional tahun 1975. Kemudian meraih norma Master Internasional tahun 1976. Pendidikan catur diperoleh Herman di Bulgaria. Ia mendapatkan semua norma GM-nya di negara itu. Norma pertama di Primorsko tahun 1977, yang kedua dan terakhir di Plovdiv setahun kemudian.

Di era 2010s, pak Herman masih aktif bermain catur di turnamen-turnamen pulau Jawa dan International. Tahun 2012 di Japfa Chess Festival, tahun 2013 di Kejurnas Catur ke-43,  tahun 2014 turnamen catur kilat So Good, dan terakhir tahun 2016 di Kejuaraan catur Kajati Jatim Cup II di bulan Mei 2016.  Beberapa partai catur kenangan dari beliau bisa dilihat di atas.

Hanya berselang beberapa jam, legenda catur international GM Viktor Korchnoi juga menghembuskan nafas terakhir di Swiss di usia 85. Beberapa hari sebelumnya legenda tinju Muhamad Ali meninggal dunia.
