Chess Olympiad 2014 - Rd 6 Indonesia Kalahkan Italia

Memasuki pagelaran Olimpiade Catur / Chess Olympiad hingga ronde ke-6, Indonesia mulai menghadapi lawan-lawan berat. Di babak 5, perhatian penggemar catur nusantara tertuju di partai Indonesia vs China. Namun perbedaan kelas yang masih ada antara pecatur China yang lebih sering bertanding terlihat nyata. Juara dunia Hou Yifan mengalahkan WGM/IM Irene K. Sukandar di papan pertama. Harapan justru ada di papan ketiga di mana Chelsie bisa memetik keunggulan posisi setelah lawannya GM Zhao Xue bermain kurang akurat, namun hasil akhir partai Chelsie Monica Ignesias vs Zhao Xue hanya menghasilkan remis alias seri. Dua papan lainnya kalah, score akhir adalah 0.5-3.5 untuk China.  Babak ke enam, Indonesia bangkit dengan mengalahkan Italia, 2.5-1.5.

Di bagian putra, Indonesia menang di babak 5 dan kalah di babak 6. Brazil ditundukkan melalui poin satu-satunya Susanto Megaranto yang menundukkan GM Rafael Leitao. Namun melawan tim kuat Eropa Timur, Indonesia takluk 3-1 dari Croatia. Croatia mempunyai tiga pecatur grandmaster dengan rating 2600+.

Olimpiade catur ini digelar di kota Tromsø di Norwegia, dari tanggal 1 Agustus hingga 14 Agustus 2014.

Chess Olympiad 2014 - Rd 3 Chelsie Sihite Kalahkan Alina L'ami

Hingga ronde 4 pagelaran Olimpiade Catur se Dunia di kota Tromsø, tim Indonesia masih membukukan hasil yang tergolong baik. Setelah empat ronde bermain catur, di mana tiap tim mengirimkan 4 pecatur, maka dari 16 partai catur tim Putera Indonesia "hanya" menderita 3 kekalahan. Namun di ronde pertama, Indonesia memang meraih hadiah WO atas ketidak hadiran tim Congo.

Sementara di tim Puteri, hasil jauh lebih menggembirakan, dari 16 partai, "baru" satu angka kekalahan individu, namun secara tim Indonesia menyapu semua point dan sekarang bertengger di ranking 2 dengan nilai 4. Di babak 4, Indonesia mengalahkan tim kuat Armenia dengan angka menyakinkan 3.5-0.5. WGM/IM Irene K. Sukandar mengalahkan pecatur wanita kawakan GM Elina Danielian. Medina berhasil memaksa remis dengan skak abadi melawan pecatur yang juga langganan juara IM Lilit Mkrtchian, sedangkan dua kemenangan manis dibukukan Chelsie dan Dewi di papan 3 dan 4.

Grand Europe Albena Cup 2014 - Round 4

Less attention were given to this tournament, Grand Europe "Albena Cup" 2014, playing right now in Albena Bulgaria. The tournament's highest seed are Ivan Cheparinov, Vladimir Akopian, Kiril Georgiev, Dragan Solak and so on. Bulgarian highest player, Veselin Topalov, of course playing at Norway's Chess 2014 right now along with Magnus Carlsen.

Indonesian send all our top players to warm this event. GM Susanto Megaranto is on the 16th seed, while two WGMs , current Asian Individual queen Irene K. Sukandar and Medina Warda Aulia in the 59th and 61st seed. Other Indonesian players are Chelsie Monica, Dewi AA Citra, Umi F, IM Farid Firmansyah, Muh. Ali and others. Indonesian most notable results are per 4 round booked by Irene when she defeated GM Emre Can on round 2. Most surprising result was from untitled Priasmoro Novendra, who scored 2.5/4. His victims included IM Veselin Pantev from Bulgaria.

As per 4th round, two players are on perfect score. GM Esen Baris and IM Vitaliy Bernadskiy didn't get much trouble from their opponents. One of Vitaliy victims was Chelsie Monica (Indonesia).

Yu Yangyi and Goryachkina 2013 World Junior Chess Champions

World Junior Chess Championship 2013 concluded by round thirteen. GM Yu Yangi and WGM Alexandra Goryachkina became the champion on Open section and Girl section. GM Alexander Ipatov took the second rank and Santosh Gujrathi Vidit took the third place in the open category. In the Girls category, the second place goes to 13-years old sensation from Kazakhstan Zhansaya Abdulmalik and third place is Alina Kashlinskaya.

The top seeds in Open reflected closely to the final ranking. Except GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and GM Nils Grandelius that catapulted out of the top ten, despited they seeded quite high in the tournament.

Kejuaraan dunia catur Junior 2013 di kota Kocaeli, Turki telah berakhir. Pemenang untuk Juara Junior 2013 ini adalah GM Yu Yangyi dari China. Grandmaster Yu Yangyi kelahiran kota Huangshi, umur 19 memang adalah seeded/unggulan pertama. Yu Yangyi sudah sangat sering bermain di turnamen manca negara dan kerap kali memenangkannya. Ini adalah gelar  terbaik Yu Yangi. Runner up adalah pecatur tuan rumah Alexander Ipatov.

Di bagian puteri, unggulan ketiga Alexandra Goryachkina jadi juaranya. Kekalahan satu-satunya Goryachkina ini adalah di tangan Medina Aulia. Alexandra melaju dengan nilai 9 dari 13 babak. Di susul pecatur belia usia 13 tahun dari Kazakhstan , Zhansaya Abdumalik, yang sama seperti Medina, akan memperoleh gelar WGM. Zhansaya dikabarkan adalah puteri kedua termuda yang meraih gelar WGM setelah Hou Yifan, hanya kalah tua 2 bulan-an.

Selamat bagi pecatur Indo yang main di Kocaeli Turki: Farid Firmansyah, Muh Luthfi Ali, Chelsie Monica Sihite dan Medina Aulia Warda. Oleh-oleh dari Kocaeli adalah gelar WGM untuk Medina. Sedangkan untuk Luhfi Ali, dikabarkan ini adalah norm IM pertama-nya.

World Junior 2013 Round 9 - Chelsie Wins

World Junior Chess Championship 2013 is now passed round 9, the juniors keep things alive and interesting in Turkey. Playing each other from 12th to 27th September 2013, the top table now lead by incumbent title defender GM Alexander Ipatov. Yu Yangyi slipped to rank 2 after he cannot get full point over Sahaj Grover. While in the Women section, thing goes a little bit dramatic, seeded no.5 Irina Bulmaga from Romania just wrestled the leading spot by defeating seeded no.1 Alina Kashinskaya of Russia.

In the news of Indonesian players, dramatic situation happened on board fourth where Medina Aulia Warda playing Sabina Ibrahimova. The final position show Sabina in clear won situation, but instead she didn't managed to see the winning line and offer a draw to Medina. For Chelsie Monica Sihite, she played an imaginative attacking game with Evans gambit. Seized the initiative and space superiority right from the beginning, the opponent indeed able to equalize at some points but just failed to see the tactical way to done it. Chelsie won a full point over Zhanna Karabayeva of Uzbekistan and now climbing at 5.5/9 points.  (see game viewer below this page)

Other Indonesian boys, M. Luthfi Ali won against Ukrainian Mykola Bortnyk, who rely on Alekhine defence. The game went to endgame but White simple sealed the point  at 47. h5 Ke7? 48. h6!. Luthfi Ali is rumoured as very strong internet player, especially active in Chesscube server. He also secured his first International Master norm. Farid Firmansyah fight a hard draw against  Tibor Kende Antal in the Slavia defence.

Di pertarungan perebutan juara catur junior di Turki,  setelah melewati babak ke-9 grandmaster tuan rumah Alexander Ipatov akhirnya mengejar GM Yu Yangyi di pucuk klasemen. Sedangkan di bagian puteri grandmaster wanita dari Rumania Irina Bulmaga adalah yang sekarang bertengger di pimpinan klasemen setelah mengalahkan WGM Alina Kashlinskaya. Medina ditekan lawannya yang memegang buah hitam di pembelaan Sisilia Naga Dipercepat dengan Ikatan Maroczy (Accelerated Dragon, Maroczy Bind). Sedangkan bintang ronde-9 adalah Chelsie Monica, yang secara agresif mengurung langkah lawan dengan pembukaan Gambit Evans. Di serangan gambit Evans ini, Monica yang pegang buah putih mengkorbanisasi sebuah pion tapi sebagai kompensasi mendapat inisiatif dan keunggulan space yang luas. Hitam tidak berkembang dan harus menerima kondisi pasif sepanjang permainan dan kalah.

M. Luthfi Ali ditantang lawan dengan pembelaan Alekhine dan memang harus bermain panjang untuk menggolkan angka penuh (lihat gambar di atas). Dari info Luthfi mengantongi norma International Master melalui kemenangan di ronde ini. Sedangkan Farid Firmansyah tidak bisa berbuat banyak dengan putih dan harus remis melawan Tibor Kende Antal yang mengandalkan pembelaan Slavia .

2012 Chess Olympiad Final-Armenia Gold

Armenia rewarded a gold medal in the final of 2012 Chess Olympiad Turkey. Come very close and rewarded silver is team Russian. Bronze went to Ukraine. In Armenia vs Hungaria , it takes a while to confirm the champion because the battle in Judit Polgar vs Vladimir Akopian went to 90s moves before a draw. Thus Armenia dully won 2.5-1.5 by Movsessian won against Zoltan Almasi. Ukraine comfortably beat China, and Russian to Germany both in 3-1. Russian and Armenia in 19 points but Russian get the unlucky tie break system and must satisfy with a silver. Armenia, Russia and Ukraine consistently dominated Gold medal of Chess Olympiad in the last ten years.

Tim Indonesia menyudahi perjuangan di Olympiade Catur 2012 Turkey dengan kemenangan ganda di babak terakhir. Tim putera mengalahkan Irak 2.5-1.5 dan tim puteri berjaya mengalahkan tim Yunani yang lebih kuat ratingnya 3-1. Hasil bagus dihasilkan tim puteri yang menjadi tim terbaik kategori group C. Tim puteri juga tim ASEAN berposisi tertinggi bahkan di atas tim Vietnam. Chelsie Monica Sihite dikabarkan meraih norma WGM dan menjadi penghasil angka paling baik dengan delapan angka hasil dari sepuluh kali tanding (8/10). Tim putera juga mengakhiri dengan angka positif. Prestasi olimpiade sebelumnya adalah tim putera di peringkat 67 dan tim puteri di peringkat 43.

In the top news of 2012 Chess Olympiad Turkey, GM Hikaru Nakamura defeat Vladimir Kramnik. Several notes for this victory, Nakamura surpassing Kramnik in live rating, and close to 2800. Gata Kamsky defeat Alexander Grischuk and United States now level the point together with China, Russia and Armenia all with 15 points. Armenia defeats Germany. China finally stop Phillipine getting more point, all board 2 to 3 are exhausted and defeat to the Chinese. On the other story, Vietnam give the second consecutive lost to English. Argentine make it to top ten after seize point to Serbia, making all three continents, Europe, Asia, North America and Latin all have their representative.

In Women news, China hold their supremacy with a sole lead. China defeat France, Russia continue the battle with a win over India. United States lost to Ukraine girls.

As predicted, Indonesian teams didn't make it survive in "odd" (tough) round. The boys team surrender 1-3 against Mexico. The girls narrowly missed the draw against Italian ladies. Kembali tim Indonesia gagal menahan lawan di ronde ganjil yang selalu bertemu lawan "berat" . Tim putera harus menyerah kalah 1-3 melawan Mexico yang memiliki 3 pemain rating 2500an. Di Olimpiade sebelumnya Susanto Megaranto mengalahkan Leon Hoyos, namun hari ini si Mexican berhasil membalas kesumat-nya. Di bagian puteri, ada sedikit perjuangan namun menyerah 1.5-2.5. Grandmaster Amerika Serikat mengalahkan mantan juara catur dunia Vladimir Kramnik, di babak ke sembilan Olimpiade Catur 2012 di Turki. Melalui kemenangan ini atas tim Russia, dan kemenangan Gata Kamsky atas Alexander Grischuk, tim USA ada di posisi ke empat dengan angka 15, setara dengan tiga tim pengejar medali lainnya, China, Armenia dan Russia. China mengalahkan tim Phillipina yang tampil solid di Olimpiade edisi ini. Sementara tim Vietnam mengalahkan Inggris, sehingga Inggris mengalami kekalahan berturut-turut melawan tim ASEAN. Di sisi lain, Olimpiade 2012 di Turki ini ditandai insiden pencekalan jurnalis Russia oleh tuan rumah. Pencekalan ini dicurigai berkaitan dengan pemberitaan si jurnalis terhadap keburukan tuan rumah dalam penyelenggaraan kejuaraan catur wanita sebelumnya, mengakibatkan simpati buruk kepada kebebasan pers di Turki. Beberapa grandmaster dunia menyatakan sikap dukungan terhadap si jurnalis.

2012 Olympiad Round 3 Indonesia defeat Ecuador

Moving to round 3 of 2012 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul Turkey, Indonesia team manage to overcome quite an equal opponenets, team Ecuador. In the final score, the Red White team scored 2.5-1.5. By this result, Indonesia pocketed 4 points stayed at 44th position.

In the women party, Indonesian girls also face Latin team, Cuba. Top board and rising star Medina unlikely get her another luck and must submit 0-1 score to the opponents. A single victory stealth by Monica Chelsie Sihite against 2345 rating WGM Pina Vega Sulennis. Indonesian girls must satisfied with position 55th and three points collected so far.

Hasil akhir di ronde tiga Olimpiade Catur di Istanbul Turki mencatat Indonesia 2.5 - Ecuator 1.5. Hasil bagian putera ini membawa Indonesia mengantongi angka 4 dan berposisi no.44, di atas Malaysia dan Singapore tapi sama dengan Vietnam. Di mana tim Vietnam akan menjadi ujian terberat pertama Indonesia di babak ke empat. Hasil di tim puteri masih lebih berat karena kalah 1-3 melawan tim Amerika Tengah Kuba. Untung Chelsie Monica mampu memberikan hiburan dengan mengalahkan WGM Pina Vega yang dua ratus point rating di atas Monica. Chelsie bermain putih dan menaklukkan permainan Sisilia lawan, di mana hingga langkah 40 telah berhasil membuat kombinasi skak mat karena lawan terburu-buru melangkah pion f4 di saat raja hitam sedang dalam posisi bahaya di kelilingi benteng putih.

2012 World Junior Chess Championship Guo Qi won Tie Break to Medina

Duo Indonesian female chess player, Medina Warda Aulia (2218) and Chelsie Monica Sihite finished their journey in Junior Chess Championship with good performance. Medina is finished 9.5/13 which mean the same point as tournament winner WGM Guo Qi, only that Medina tie break system inferior to all three contestant with the same score. Both girls, Medina and Chelsie, performed above their rating and take time to enjoy upsetting upper hand opponents. In round 12 Medina upset Peruvian WGM Deysi T Cori in Queen Indian game and grab advantage from the opening line. She hold the ground all the way and secured a black victory. On round 13 Chelsie also close the tournament with a win, Chelsie scored 8.5/13. In the game against MNE's Jovana Vojinovic, Chelsie won the queen endgame and give her performance of 2319.

The male section was won by Alexander Ipatov , top ten in the final standing are below. CM Farid Firmansyah is in flat result, 7.5/13 and quite under performing.

Medina Warda Aulia Kalah Tipis di perebutan medali Kejuaraan Junior Catur Dunia di kota Athena. Walaupun mengantongi nilai 9.5/13 tetapi sistem tie break yang Medina miliki harus kalah dengan tiga pecatur lainnya. Alhasil hasil ini membuat perjuangan puteri Indonesia harus puas di posisi ke empat. Medina bersama rekan Chelsie Monica Sihite berhasil tampil di atas rating mereka dengan memberi perlawanan dan kemenangan terhadap lawan-lawan dunia yang lebih baik ratingnya.   Turnamen ini dimenangkan oleh pecatur China WGM Guo Qi. Well, GM Susanto Megaranto from Indonesia beated the Gruenfeld Opening all the time, but perhaps this is the first victory over GM Yehuda Gruenfeld. 10th ASEAN Age Group Champs - Indonesian Results

Let's see what happen on chess during my holiday this week. In China Ding Liren managed to clinched the 2009 Chinese Championship title, in his final round drama he got a full point thanks to the FIDE "zero start" rules. Big articles on Chessbase here and here.

In South East Asian big chess celebration is on Hue City of Vietname where the 10th ASEAN+ AGE Group Championship taken place. The meaning of plus (+) symbol in front of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) indicated that there are delegation from countries outside ASEAN which are : Iran, Australia, Russia and India. The member of ASEAN country participated here are : Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapora, Phillipine, Brunei dan host Vietnam, making up a total of ten participating teams.

The championship played in Standard, Rapid and Blitz time control. This week the Standard events was just finished. Indonesian team consists of five youngsters :

FM Rian Kapriaga (2094)- finished 19th in Open 20, top finisher in this group is Vietnamese Le Quang Long with 7,5/9 and Singaporean youngster FM Daniel Chan Yi-Ren finished 3rd with 6,0/9.

WCM (Women Candidate Master) Chelsie Monica Sihite - finished 8th in Girl 14 with 5,0/9.
Nadia Anggraeni followed 9th with 4,5/9.

Big news is coming from Girl 12 where ,
WCM Medina Warda Aulia confirmed a sole leader after won all her games up round 7. She drew in round 8 and won the last round, made her 8,5 points as a clear winner of Girl 12. The winner of each group will awarded a FM or WFM title, so congratulation to Medina for being the next Indonesian WFM! Medina and Chelsie Monica are students of Sekolah Catur Utut Adianto (SCUA / Utut Adianto Chess School) and trained as future team-mate for WGM Irene Kharisma Sukandar. Both Chelsie and Medina were a winners of Girls 13 and Girls 11 of the 4th World Schools Chess Championships 2008 in Singapore.

Lastly, Karenza Dita also seized a Bronze Medal in Girls 10 with 6,0/9. In this group also participating Singapore's Neha Shankar,one of Singaporean Junior with whom I managed to play one rapid rated-game (which she won!), Neha finished 9th with 5,5/9.
