Alina L'Ami Won Jakarta Japfa Festival 2013

The 2013 edition of Chess Festival in Jakarta, Japfa International had been concluded. The main event consisted of all females (the beauties, they dubbed...) won by Alina L'Ami. The contest held from April 14th 2013 for a week. Not much information can gathered from internet, only few official's snaps taken from Facebook to let us to get a bit of feeling around the tournament.

London 2013 Winner: Carlsen (vs Anand)

Turnament kandidat penantang juara dunia catur di London berakhir dengan Magnus Carlsen sebagai juara. Walaupun di ronde terakhir Carlsen dikalahkan oleh pecatur Rusia Peter Svidler, namun saingan terdekat, mantan juara dunia, Vladimir Kramnik juga dikalahkan pecatur flamboyan Vasily Ivanchuk. Dengan hasil ini juara dunia catur saat ini Vishwanathan Anand akan ditantang Magnus Carlsen di edisi turnamen juara catur dunia berikutnya. Magnus Carlsen adalah pecatur muda dari Norwegia yang juga pecatur dengan rating tertinggi dunia saat ini. Dia pernah berlatih di bawah bimbingan Garry Kasparov dan memang dijagokan untuk menantang Anand sekaligus bahkan menjadi juara dunia baru. Hasil terakhir dari turnament London 2013 FIDE Candidate tournament bisa dilihat di bawah.

London 2013 FIDE Candidate tournament just over few minutes ago. Both top contender, Magnus Carlsen and Vladimir Kramnik dramatically lost in the last round. Carlsen lost to Svidler while Kramnik suffered the 'up-the-roller-coaster-moment' Ivanchuk. Although Ivanchuk play extremely unstabil result of the tournament, he is again prove to be one of main attraction in every tournament he join in. Same thing to Peter Svidler who just finished with a plus score.

Ironic lost to Kramnik who gain momentum in the last part of tournament but must surrender the ticket to meet Anand to Carlsen. Both come with same score but Kramnik is sort of one win, so the Norwegian wonder is instead the challenger of World Chess Championship title, against Vishwanatan Anand later on. After twenty years, who may predict it will be Norwegia vs India for the chess title!

Levon Aronian is half point behind leaders, so do Peter Svidler. While Boris Gelfand and Alexander Grischuk make a good playing chess friends for the rest. Invited Teimour Radjabov will need to prove he is serious participant in the top ten of chess for rest of his life. He is on the last position.

BTW, this is not an APRIL Fool joke!

Pertandingan Kandidat Juara Catur London 2013

Suasana pertandingan memperebutkan posisi kandidat penantang catur edisi 2013 di London semakin memanas. Setelah melewati sembilan putaran kursi alias ronde, pecatur peringkat pertama paling anyar dunia, Magnus Carlsen menempati urutan pertama di klasemen pertandingan. Hal ini sudah diperkirakan baik melalui urutan rating peserta maupun melalui kualitas pemain di mana Carlsen sangat dijagokan semua pihak untuk merebut tiket kandidat menantang juara dunia catur sekarang, yaitu Viswanathan Anand.

Saingan terdekat Carlsen hanyalah mantan juara dunia Vladimir Kramnik dan pecatur terkuat angkatan 2000s yaitu Levon Aronian dari Armenia. Diikuti delapan pemain, setiap pecatur berhadapan bergiliran alias sistem round robin. Hingga round 9, Carlsen tidak terkalahkan, demikian juga Kramnik, dan Aronian terpaksa menelan satu kali kekalahan dari pecatur kuat Israel Boris Gelfand di round 9.

Pertandingan umumnya berlangsung super ketat, hanya di partai-partai Vassily Ivanchuk di mana catur dimainkan lebih liar dengan pembukaan yang aneh sesuai karakter Ivanchuk. Tidak ada partai pembukaan Sicilia yang open yang dimainkan. Partai yang cukup menarik adalah kemenangan pecatur Israel-Rusia Boris Gelfand yang memegang buah hitam mengalahkan pecatur Azerbaijan Teimour Radjabov, yang sebenarnya hanya hadir sebagai undangan. Partai Catur Vishwanathan Anand vs Garry Kasparov - Pembelaan Sisilia

Berikut sebuah partai catur dengan pembukaan Sisilia yang dimainkan oleh Viswanathan Anand memegang buah putih melawan Garry Kasparov. Ini adalah partai ronde ke-13 dari dwitarung kejuaraan dunia mereka di World Trade Center, New York 1995. Anand vs Kasparov ini adalah perebutan juara dunia versi PCA dan dimenangkan oleh Garry Karparov.

Partai ini menggunakan pembelaan Sisilia variasi Naga, (Sicilian Defence Dragon Variation) di mana Kasparov dengan agresif mencuri inisiatif setelah Anand kurang akurat melangkah dan menukar kuda di petak c6. Kasparov mengungguli Anand hanya dengan 26 langkah dengan kombinasi Ratu+2 Benteng yang lebih dominan dibanding buah putih yang masih pasif.

Fide Zone 3.3 2013 Vietnam 1st Phillipine 2nd Indonesia 3rd

The Asian Zonal 3.3 happening from January 22nd, 2013 to January 29th finished yesterday. The final standing reflected the chess power struggling between South East Asia federation. Vietnam managed to score the best player in the tournament with GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son at first place. He was Vietnam's second best player right now as GM Le Quam Liem is playing in Gibraltar Open 2013 right now. Followed the second place is GM Wesley So and our Indonesia's best finished third. In this case the tournament concluded GM Nguyen and Wesley So the ticket for the next FIDE Knock Out Chess Championship.

Similar things happening in the Women section. Vietnam put WGM Nguyen Thi Thanh An first place. On second place, Phillipine show their latest female player newcomer with untitled Galas Bernadette on the spot. Indonesia's rising star WIM Medina Aulia Warda must satisfied with third place.

Indonesia menempati urutan ketiga di kedua section kejuaran catur Zona Asia 3.3 yang berlangsung di Tagaytay Filipina 2013. Di daerah Asia Tenggara ini, akhir hasil menunjukkan pertarungan antara Vietnam, Filipina dan Indonesia dalam bersaing menguasai pangsa pasar catur. Hasil akhir tersebut menunjukkan Vietnam masih memiliki kekuatan catur terkuat sekarang dengan menempatkan dua pemain sebagai pemenang kejuaran catur ini. GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son yang merupakan pecatur kedua terbaik di Vietnam sekarang berhasil meraih posisi pertama. Pecatur terbaik Vietnam sekarang GM Le Quang Liem justru bermain di turnamen bergengsi di Gibraltar Eropa. GM Wesley So dari Filipina menempati peringkat kedua, sedangkan pecatur Indonesia GM Megaranto Susanto harus puas di posisi ketiga. Dengan hasil ini, Indonesia tidak berhasil menempatkan pecatur untuk tampil di kejuaraan Catur Dunia berikutknya, karena dua pecatur terbaik saja yang mendapatkan hadiah tiket kualifikasi kejuaraan catur dunia tersebut.

Di bagian puteri kedudukan serupa juga terjadi. Vietnam di posisi pertama, Filipina posisi kedua dan Medina Aulia Warda ada di posisi ketiga. Medina meninggalkan rekan lain seperti Chelsie Monica, Dewi AA Citra dan Ummi Fisabilillah yang mengakhiri turnamen di bagian agak buntut. Dari hasil ini, kejutan terjadi di posisi kedua di mana pecatur yang tidak tidak diunggulkan dan tidak bergelar dari Filipina yaitu Galas Bernadette menunjukkan taringnya dengan meraih posisi kedua tersebut. Saingan puteri baru di kancah pertarungan catur puteri Asia Tenggara. Ironisnya, Medina mengalahkan Galas di babak pertama.

Berikut partai menarik dari GM Megaranto Susanto melawan GM Mark Paragua di babak / round 8. Di mana sejak pembukaan Susanto sudah memegang posisi baik. WGM Irene Sukandar to Score Best Woman in Australia Open 2013

Australia Chess Open held in 2 January - 13 January 2013 at Norths Chess club, 12 Abbott Street, Cammeray NSW. The tournament won by Bobby Chen who scored 9.5/11. The news for Indonesian chess fans is, WGM Irene K. Sukandar score the Best Woman with 8/11. This making her also received the prize winner as shared third position. In the last round Irene defeated GM Igor Khenkin with Queen Indian variation, after the exchange she emerged as the better side with pieces advantage. Holding black side, Irene force a bishop vs rook endgame and duly won the final exchange. The game:

Dengan hasil ini Irene meraih peringkat ketiga bersama, sekaligus mendapat hadiah sebagai Wanita terbaik di ajang tersebut. Di partai terakhir Irene mengalahkan Grandmaster Igor Khenkin dalam permainan Ratu India. Partai tersebut dapat dilihat melalui viewer di atas.

Women's Chess Championship 2012 Round 3

With three strongest girls all falls apart, the KO format of Women's Chess Championship is under big talk already. First is Humpy Koneru that played too cool and then freezed by Madame Grischuk, or Natalia Zhukova. She was duly defeated in 2-0 score. Hou Yifan was also can't hold the more experience Monika Socko, vanished via tie break. Third seed Anna Muzychuk do nothing better against Anna Ushenina, going home as well now. All happens as early in round two. While the men's K.O. format of World Championship, some believe still maintained top seed, at least until later stage, the girls are now in question for their randomness champion via this road of competition. Nevertheless, the KO produced exciting pairing and temptative to given a commentaries.

Round 3 Women's World Chess Championship, Khanty Mansiysk 2012, pairings comments:

32 Monika Socko vs 16 Antoaneta Stefanova
Both eliminated world champion, Antoaneta played Zhu Chen previously, then Monika is the steel nerves that back from grave after 0-1 against Hou Yifan. This will be a solid pairing as the two are session players of thirty year old female player, not your just grow up girl in play. Stefanova is the only ex-Women Champion in this round, after the club's member being eliminated massively. The chessgames.com database give Antoaneta a huge plus point against Monika. But again, this is a balance pair that may need go tie break.

8 Marie Sebag  vs 24 Alissa Galliamova
Alissa is still eldest among the participants. She twice in match for champion, against Xie Jun back in the '99s, and Xu Yuhua in 2006. In the interview, Alissa looks fresh and a hard to defeat as an opponent. Marie Sebag go to third round with rather easier road, which is the same as Alissa. A balance pairing as well, interestingly, no Galliamova vs Marie Sebag in the database (?).

4 Zhao Xue  vs 20 Mariya Muzychuk
Behold, Zhao Xue is the strongest seed in round three now. She has been a consistent member of China team for ten years. Her biggest sensation in GP Nalchik 2011 where she won with 9.5/11. This is her chance to added world champion trophy in her portfolio. Mariya Muzychuk is on her way. Perhaps a note here is Mariya will come with free Anna as assistant. Zhao is experience more and could be advanced to round four.

28 Lela Javakhishvili  vs 12 Dronavalli Harika
And the last Indian representative in the bracket. She (maybe) will has team of Humpy and Soumya to help. Her opponent is a middle rank who managed to keep going. Lela Javakhishvili eliminated Katerina Lahno, is dangerous to underestimated. Not sure the outcome!

30 Anna Ushenina  vs 19 Natalia Pogonina
Though "only" seed #19, Natalia is popular favorite. Well known to fans due to her writing and commentaries, this is a chance to add spice for your next talk with fans, Nat! Anna Ushenina is here after eliminated Anna Muzychuk, so here giant killer waiting to give another surprise. Natalia and Anna both born in 1985.

6 Nadezhda vs 11 Tatiana Kosintseva
Now we are the lucky bastard who enjoy sister fight. Nadezha will play a one year younger blood sister, Tatiana. Very much not fixed for sure now, by the system. Who's going to win, the world also had no idea, as the sister put in, "I don't know how to prepare against Nad/Tatiana...." The predict can be two outcome, both played chess , regularly, and can go to tie break. Or.. they just commit one decisive result and save the extra days shopping together again. We'll see.

26 Huang Qian vs 23 Irina Krush
Don't forget the American contender. Irina Krush played a solid comeback and defeat veteran Pia Cramling. She is now quite experience player that played oversea chess, outside the USA soil. Huang Qian is another, not very much known, China team member. But for one thing, Huang Qian is 2012 Chinese Chess Champion ahead of Ju Wenjun. The pairing is well balance in term of rating point, 2470 vs 2465.

15 Ju Wenjun vs 31 Natalia Zhukova Ju Wenjun believe to be the next talent player from the crowd of China players. She finished 1st Hangzhou in 2011, ahead Hou Yifan and the Kosintseva sister. The China team come will enough players to assist their remaining bullets, including off working World Champion on the team now. Natalia Zhukova on other hand, need to refresh herself from the victory against Humpy, determined and focus to repeat the same feat. Spouse to Alexander Grischuk give us interesting pairing, from the point of view of China talent vs dark horse of the tournament.
