Chess at SEA Games 2011 Jakarta Palembang

SEA Games or South East Asian Games kicking off last night. The multi sport event is the Olympiad of the region. In this year edition, Jakarta will co-hosting with city Palembang, separate by sea as one is in Java island and Palembang in Sumatera archipelago.

Chess is getting its share pie in the festival. Three event where design to appeal chess as a sport, surprisingly, it is design as Blindfold, Mixed Pair (perhaps due to the high popular Badminton mixed pair setup) and of course standard or classical Chess.

GM Le Quang Liem headline the overall rating. Indonesian puts high hope as we put in the "dream pair" GM Megaranto Susanto with WGM Irene K. Sukandar. Full list of player is below, the event will started at Saturday 12th of November 2011 for a week of play, for that three medals.

So far the hosting team Indonesia already surprisingly missed all the medals. In mixed pair, Indonesia surprisingly losing to Malaysia team (Megaranto losing and Irene draw after playing a good position) and missed the bronze.

2011 Japfa Chess Jakarta - WGM Event

From 23rd October 2011 and last for about a week, there were Japfa Chess holding in Jakarta. Japfa is a chess festival with multi events for chess player of all level. The highlight of the event is the Japfa WGM tournament. Invited in this events are three oversea WGMs to compete with three locals female players. In the early rounds, WGM Anna Burtasova was surprises by the competitive level of local girls and must donate a few rating to their opponents. In the end, highest rated WGM Sopiko Guramishvili claimed the first place. Indonesian highest rated female player, WGM Irene K. Sukandar was playing in China League and did not participate in Japfa 2011.

2011 6th Japfa Chess Jakarta

There will be another chess festival at Jakarta, Indonesia. The tournament will be held on 24th to 28th October 2011 location should be Hotel Kartika Chandra, Jakarta. Women Chess GP, Zhao Xue and Their Romantic Scoresheet

October 2011 is a warm month full of romantic chess news. First it is Morozevich who finished ahead their opponents in full points in Saratov 2011. Secondly Yasser Seirawan put his buttock on the chess chair again after about decade of absentus, and tie first in Ciutat de Barcelona.

The most sensational news is from the Chinese girl GM Zhao Xue, winning the Women GP in Nalchik with two rounds to spare. This romantic scoresheet is the reflection on how the gap between one player to other in women's chess. Notice that the "peak time" of each player is also rotaring faster than men's, in other words, less consistency on these girls.

In Fide Women GP Nalchik 2011, Zhao Xue finished 8.5/9 out of 11 rounds, and her closest competitor Ju Wenjun and Russian Ekaterina Kovalevskaya are 2.5 points behind. This GP session did not included Hou Yifan , who usually the protagonist of such score achievement, and GM Konery Humpy. Nevertheless Zhao Xue "peak" time now victimized:

Indonesia Open 2011: Li Chao and Ganguly Tie First

The last round of Indonesia Open Chess Championship 2011 decided two players as top point receiver. Li Chao crack Argentinian GM Mareco Sandro to catch Surya Ganguly on top with 7 points out of 9 rounds. Surya Ganguly unable to upgrade his position as he wasn't able to get full point against GM Wang Yue. Li Chao and Ganguly accurately represent two of Asia's powerhouse in chess in this decade.

On the second layer of 6.5/9 point receiver are : Oliver Barbosa, Tkachiev, Wang Yue, Wesley So and Aleksey Dreev.
