Peter Svidler Juara Piala Dunia 2011

Partai Catur Piala Dunia 2011 - Final Grischuk vs Svidler

2011 Chess World Cup Final Svidler vs Grischuk

Although Svidler vs Grischuk is the real final, I have the feeling Ivanchuk vs Ponomariov will be more the adrenalin rising match. The millions question is, will Ivanchuk qualified for the next candidate match? From the day before, surely Ivanchuk is where fan's eyes going to, hoping for Planet Chucky as one of the entertainment in the, usually, boring candidate rendezvous.

The day before Ivanchuk losing to Grischuk, Ponomariov stated that to be the third person qualified is his highest priority now. And with current circumstance, with Ivanchuk haunted on his 1 seconds blunder, in better position, vs the two days fresh man waiting, Ivanchuk's task will be difficult. Analysis completed. But .... as many older generation fans, we are ok to sacrifice Pono for Chucky to sit on the third spot. So go Chucky, please beat the odd!

Here facts for final 2011 of Chess World Cup in Khanty Mansiysk.

After Ponomariov eliminated, it is confirmed another new name for World Cup champion. After Ivanchuk stopped, it is confirmed a new Russian champion, the first after Khalifman (and Kramnik)!

Peter Svidler gone to the final in good shape. After round III, he straighly gone 2-0 to Kamsky, and 1.5-0.5 to Judit Polgar and Ruslan Ponomariov. So far Svidler is on 9 wins and 9 draws. See the statistic of his previous tournament, the Russian Champ, we have enough trend that he will able to reach the title.

Alexander Grischuk, on other hand, have another great factor in chess, luck. His second game with Morozevich, gone "lucky" as Morozevich "not in fighting mood". Same thing, with Potkin and Navara it was plenty of luck Grischuk had. And obviously with Ivanchuk yesterday. So Grischuk went to final with 9-2-11 draws. Grischuk will at least repeat his appearances in Candidate matches.

So chessgames.com database entry for the final pairings, and put your online bookie now for:

Peter Svidler vs Alexander Grischuk
"Peter Svidler beat Alexander Grischuk 9 to 7, with 21 draws"

and

Vasily Ivanchuk vs Ruslan Ponomariov

Chess World Cup 2011 Semifinals

This year's Chess World Cup semi finalist are set:

This first pairing of Ukraine vs Russian, generations of the 2000s vs 1990s is set after both eliminated their quarter final opponents in "normal" games. Both are familiar enough each other. They are 27 games in chess games database played from year 2000 until now. For this data Ponomariov surprising on greater score with 7-5-15 (draws). Ponomariov is now proved very specialist in K.O. setting, while Peter is on his top form, previously winning top league of Russian. In post interview after his games with Gashimov, Ponomariov set his target not the be the fourth place of semifinalist, as that will not earned him to Candidate challengers match. This is the repeated pairing of 2002 World Cup, also in semifinal where Pono won. Fact is, Ponomariov get the same pairing also in quarter final vs Gashimov, same as in 2009. Mean, less time to work on repertoire against them.

                                                Vassily Ivanchuk vs Alexander Grischuk

Second pairing, Alexander Grischuk is the only player to "tasted" recent World Champion KO candidate, where he reach final only to lost to Boris Gelfand. While Ivanchuk strongest KO tournament is the 2002 World Cup where he lost to Ponomariov. The chess database software of chessgames.com still put greater score for Ivanchuk 9-5-15 (draws).

If lucky enough, I will book money for Svidler vs Ivanchuk in final and let God decided who to win in this dream pairing. Both Svidler and Ivanchuk are "veteran" enough in era 2011 to deserved one more glory.
So, this semis is also about who didn't reach the three spots for next candidate match.

Dr Nazrin Shah KL Open - Oliver Barbosa Wins

Although the chess-result.com shows IM Nguyen Doc Hoa as first position finisher, but it is confirmed in Peter Long chess and klchess.com that Phillipino IM Oliver Barbosa is the winner of Dr Nazrin Shah KL Open 2011. The Kuala Lumpur Chess website also confirmed GM title on pape for IM Oliver Barbosa and Richard Bitoon, as well IM tile and GM norm for Jahongir Vakhidov of Uzbekistan.

Indonesian delegation in Open name the best performer is IM Tirta Purnama, with 6.5/9 rounds, he is tie second in theory. GM Megaranto, straight from World Chess Cup in Siberia, finished 5.5/9 , drawing many games and slighty under performed here. WGM Irene Sukandar is also 5.5/9 but she is "over performed" in relation to her rating, she is undefeated (as well Megaranto).

IM Dede Lioe and GM Cerdas Barus also in positive result 5.5/9. More stories and photos at http://www.klchess.com/ with Peter Long reporting.

2011 World Chess Cup Judit Joint Quarter Final

Come back from her first game lost to L.Dominguez, Judit Polgar bounced and bounced from any kind of positions into a winning one. Her second normal round against Dominguez was an epic battle up to hundred moves, she sure missed the "easy" Kc1 mate, then she went through a random moves of R+B vs R endgame and finally found the winning pattern to secured the tie break.

Easy mate in Dominguez - Polgar, R4 G2 World Cup 2011, Black to moves

On tie break, Judit executed again, the Sicilian as Black and get quite straightforward win. But the second tie break, Judith went "not drawish" opening, the Scandinavian, and quickly got drug by the Cuban and drag into hard work once again. Here another drama happening, the third game worked almost a win for Black's Sicilian, but then again Dominguez out of nowhere take the poisonous pawn on b2 and Judit line up forces of Queen and Rook is enough to push a win. And so did the fourth game bring back Dominguez, and both enjoying themself to the blitz. It is only the last blitz, Judit manage to score final point, with Black side of Sicilian.

So, Judit will play Peter Svidler, whom sitting comfortably waiting since yesterday, after he eliminated Kamsky in no less spectacular game than Judit's.

And here the database link for quarter final pairings, World Chess Cup 2011, Khanty Mansyisk.

Judit Polgar vs Peter Svidler
Now chess fans will need to divide sympathy between the sensasional Judit and the charming Peter. According to Peter, he got difficulty against the two (Dominguez)! The chessgames database confirmed the two is equal and splitting point several times.

next..
Gashimov survived the last dynamite of Danish Peter Nielsen. Peter is extremely solid theoritician, worked as second to Anand and this proved fatal on the second normal game against Gashimov. After secured the first rapid, Gashimov fall to Judit's behaviour, playing his specialty yet "non drawish" Benoni gambit.

Nielsen tamed Gashimov's Benoni, and move 55.Rxd6! taken the extra piece in a careful minutes calculation in the thread of Black's coming promotion.

Gashimov still got the sting in this second rapid game but then his elo confirmed superiority on the last two rapid games. Now Gashimov going to play Ponomariov, who also got difficulty eliminating Lazaro Bruzon. Ponomariov himself outplayed Gashimov, in database.

Vugar Gashimov vs Ruslan Ponomariov

Same result going for Ivanchuk versus Radjabov, with positive score on Ivanchuk. Although Radjabov get one extra rest day and Ivanchuk himself performed "solid" in between blunders.

Vasily Ivanchuk vs Teimour Radjabov

And finally , mr.Fair Play Navara to play Grischuk. Navara is also one day extra to prepare, and Grischuk playing hard against Potkin in the tie break. Navara is nowday a player seems going nowhere in the realm of European chess scene, while Grischuk is settle quite strong in Russian and quite success in elite tournament. This should be the only chance for Navara to rise himself, not only as a nice guy. Database only show two games and a win for Grischuk.
