Japfa Chess Festival 2017 - GM Susanto Megaranto First Place

Indonesian strongest chess open tournament, JAPFA Chess Festival 2017 just ended yesterday. The annual chess festival held from 15th to 19th May 2017 in Gedung Serbaguna Senayan Jakarta. As usual, the festival played in many categories with the strongest to be in Open category and special IM invited category.

Indonesian strongest player, GM Susanto Megaranto won the Open category with 8/9 points. Ahead of Susanto is FM Anjas Novita and IM Ivan Situru in 2nd and 3rd place. The Open category joined by more than 160+ players, coming from all Indonesian provinces.

The International Master section was also an interesting to observe. Joined by several international chess individual such IM Sagar Shah, IM Alina L'Ami and WGM Deysi Cori from Peru, the field was won by Phillipine IM Haridas Pascua. Haridas won the 10 swiss rounds with 7/10. 2nd place is FM Priasmoro Novendra and 3rd place by WGM Medina Aulia.

Famous chess columnist, IM Sagar Shah run into trouble against local FM Yoseph Taher.
